i've been in uruguay for a day and a half now. yesterday i was in colonia, which was just a ferry ride away from buenos aires. i realized that instagram music doesn't work here. odd. i managed to post an overexposed picture of the skyline as we departed with a new song from panda bear
colonia is fine. there was this lighthouse there that a couple people and i wanted to go up in, but by the time we got there it had closed. instead we went to the shore, jumped from rock to rock, to get as far as possible before the sun fully set. it was very picturesque. this girl told me about the old children's book series 'cam jansen'. the character had a photographic memory, and she would take her mental photographs by focusing and closing her eyes as she said the word 'click'. i did that a couple times while watching the sunset. just, click. i don't know if she's doing it as just a bit. but i enjoyed it. i'm going to keep doing it
i was asked why i kept doing an american inflection when speaking in spanish. i mean, i wasn't doing it all the time, but on certain words i would. i said it was cause of code-switching, but that's not true. it has more to do with the mindset i'm in. like, if i'm speaking english and i'm going to say a simple word or two in spanish, i just say it as if i were speaking english. it's just easier for me. i don't like having to switch up mid sentence when it's for something brief. i didn't explain that then. and, even now, it doesn't seem like it's that good of an explanation
was in montevideo earlier. the city has character. which means it's dirty
there are a couple words that i think should stay out of public, out-loud conversations. 'praxis' and 'neoliberal'. they come across as posturing more than anything. and i feel only sociopaths really use either outside of online discourse
i'm in my hotel room. neither of my roomates are here. i think they're out drinking. i'm not feeling particularly inclined to go to a bar. i played 'in the aeroplane over the sea' on my phone and sat to write this
forever twenty-one collabed with the u.s. postal service, which has no right to be as good as it is. they have this translucent rain jacket that i kind of like, but am not willing to spend the forty-five dollars they charge
don't really feel like talking. i've been out of it for the past few days
was reminded of how i miss diiv. now i'm listening to oshin
