so after the superbowl win, me and some friends made our way to center city. i had missed the celebrations in houston post their first ever world series win, so i knew philadelphia winning was a sign for compensation. the city was lit up green, like every major skyscraper was fluorescent green. driving down the streets was hell, but eventually, we found a spot in a garage. there were people dancing in between cars on the road. on cars. both the hoods and the roofs. flags waving. yelling. people climbed up greased poles. some actually scaled the thing, other climbed on nearby scaffolding and newsstands and got up from there. one pole, by city hall, was being violently shaken by seven-plus people. fireworks were being set off among the crowds. often, two explosions were heard. the initial, shooting up one, and then the actual light show pyrotechnics one. broad street was mad crowded. people crushed an awning. i really wanted to see a fire, but i never did. i also wanted to try and climb a pole, but i didn't want the police to tell me anything. pretty sure some white guy got jumped, but i didn't care. i kind of want to go to the actual parade on thursday, and i don't have classes that day so i could, but i probably won't. at least, as of this moment, i doubt it
i later saw videos of fires. of people flipping a car over. of a guy eating "stuff" off the floor. heard a police horse was stolen. kaijah saw the videos and messaged me, "bro , they went harder than us , when we won the world series *face-in-hand emoji*"
i get the sentiment behind every post and article saying that if the majority of participants in the vandalism that occurred during philadelphia's celebration had been black, then it would have been labelled a riot instead of just rowdy and would have been met with more violent opposition, but, i don't think we need every progressive person to post that online. we all know that. it's not exactly a groundbreaking take
i made sure i was registered to vote in the midterms yesterday. while looking at my registration info, i saw that i had been registered since early last summer. at first, it didn't make sense to me. i thought i had registered later than that, but upon further recollection, it became clear that i did get my library card at that time, and also registered to vote while there
i'm not spiraling about yesterday's thing anymore. all i can do is try and be the best person i can be. people change. the world changes. i just have to continue being kind and forgiving. which, i think, i've been doing a pretty decent job of
