people seemed to have liked the things i got them. wish i could've gotten something for more people but i was having issues closing my suitcase. the inspiration also come in random waves, so i couldn't force it
i don't trust snow
i like the phrase "on the line". it's not a real phrase, i forget where i heard it first, but i know it's a butchering of the term "online". it was made by someone of an older age, on a t.v. show, i think. teacher said she "coded ferris bueller's day off". at least i think that's what i heard her say. don't know what that means
i've had two different professors explains what hardware is to me today. i have an 8am now and it makes me feel like i'm back at my high school. i even woke up to the 7:07am alarm i had from chinquapin. me and my roommate, diego, had both set this alarm. i'm pretty sure i explained this in a previous post. to actually wake up to that alarm again was a bit disturbing. doesn't seem like the class will be a problem. neither of the two comp sci-related morning classes do. can't say yet about the writing ones
i ordered something on ebay and it arrived today in the most laughably cheap packaging i've seen. it came inside a slimfast box, with newspaper serving as cushioning. granted the thing cost me like 6$ shipped, and it was funny to receive it so it's not like i'm upset. just a noteworthy thing, i feel
this professor gave a short presentation on Hollywood and how white-male focused it is. she focused on the Oscar for best film of 2014. she focused on selma, since the presentation was mlk inspired. she brought up how much praise boyhood got, even though it is just another white boy-coming-of-age film. she expressed animosity towards it and concluded by presenting the winner of the award, birdman, with indifference. i don't want to accuse her of white liberal performativity, a five-minute presentation does not allow for full discourse and nuance, and she is more educated in film, but it did bring that idea back to my mind. "birdman" was directed by inarritu, a poc (mexican), though i will concede it isn't necessarily a non-white plot. sure, it's not a black film, like Selma is, but it isn't exactly a fully white film like boyhood. i'm sure she knows this. i say performative because it seems that if its not an extreme case of poc film, then it's white. doesn't matter if the director is mexican, because the actors are all or mostly white. she also defined black film as "directed by black people". so wouldn't that make birdman a Mexican film? i dont know. maybe i'm just sensitive because i have a personal stake; i am mexican, ya know. still, i feel the contempt shown was a bit effacing
