okay so i chose to watch 'eighth grade' and i just want to say that it is the best movie i've seen this year, of 2018. granted, i don't go to the movies much, but i think the themes and emotions it captured are more universal, especially this day in age, than what other white-protagonist, coming-of-age films tackle. i'm not gonna fully review it cause that's just not something i'm interested in doing, but i will explain some of what i felt it did well
it really captured that young desire to be liked. the protagonist was this white awkward white girl who wanted to be cool, which she attempted through her online presence, but wasn't really popular. the acting was really good, and the script was too. it allowd for humor to lighten up most situations, while not using that as an escape or crutch. there were moments, that one scene, where it got terrifying. i don't regret going to see this. it may be the last movie i watch in a while, and i'm fine with that. also, the father's character was agreeable. i think that made for a good contrast between him and the daughter that highlighted that teenage resentment/rebellion towards adults
