i got to listen to an ex-creative director at an opera company in milwaukee explain why he was miserable the years he was living there. this guy was of indian decent and he recapped ways in which people in his professional life would say and do racist things and how it all got worse during the run-up to the 2016 election. people on the streets yelled things at him like "go back to where you're from". they threw trash at him. other racist things. he said one day he was running late to some donor event for the opera company and when he got to the venue, he was stopped by some lady who told him it was a private event. he said he knew and that he was the creative director. she laughed and said she'd escort him to the door. that's ridiculous. when he first got there, people would ask him if he was glad to be out of texas and in a more liberal city like milwaukee. that's funny. milwaukee is more openly racist in so many ways. it speaks to the general ignorance about texas, which i have also noted. he went on to talk about instances here in houston, more towards pearland. he mentioned he walked into a bar in pearland that was completely white. he said he stepped in and then did that western-saloon/stand off whistle thing. to highlight the whiteness. i laughed. he was with this white girl and she was surprised by some of the things people told him. i was surprised to, but i doubt in the same way. the woman was more of an incredulous surprise, while i was more of a oh god way. brown people just can't catch a break

the show ended and it did not do that well either. seems to be a theme this summer. maybe the next one will be better

the guy also said that a few years before hamilton, he was putting on another lin manuel thing and he was trying to have a diverse cast. the board members wouldn't let him cause they didn't want him pushing a diversity agenda or something like that. then, after the whole hamilton thing, the board was like, "we need to do something like that". which made him upset cause he was ahead of that curve but the rich whites said no. lots of frustration. glad he left. also makes milwaukee less appealing to me

there were many other things he mantioned but i won't get into all of them
