i dont like that cosa was today because thursdays are my days off from classes and all these presentations made me feel like i was skipping something important. in a way, they were important, but only because some of my friends were presenting. i went to the berman presentations and reception, hoping they would be serving champagne like i was told they'd done in previous years. they didn't. so i wasn't able to get buzzed midday
i started reading 'natural selection' by frederick bartheleme. i like it so far. the author's last name reminds me of a teacher i had in high school, david bartholome. he was silly and towards the end of my time there, he lost his cool more and more. he blew up on someone. he left shortly after i graduated, maybe a year after. anyway, frederick is from houston. which i didn't know until i actually looked him up
there's this essay contest focused on immigration and they sent a reminder email/flier. i hated it. the flier had this immage of a wall in the desert and trump's smiling face next to it. it's like, only latinos immigrate to the u.s. i think this reinforces the idea that brown people immigrating from latin america is the real issue and people coming from europe are fine. it's xenophobic. the thing is being held by the economics department (i think) so it makes sense that they see working class latinos as an issue and not europeans
