why is it called the big apple? like yeah its big, huge even. but there's nothing even remotely repated to apples here. i like to call it the city of apples. which is me turning that name into more of a joke, but i dont why it was ever a thing. the only reason i can come up woth is it being a play on the phrase the apple of my eye. which would make sense since its dummy big. like im still a bit in awe at how they crammed all those buildings into a small place. i like to think i come from a big city (houston) and i do, it is huge, larger area than nyc or about as large. but the way its all spread out messes with my perception. it dwarfs philly. on par with chicago, but new york is so crammed its crazy. its also a lot older, which has a lot to do with the discrepancy, i reckon
